Vox machina intro song12/5/2023 ![]() Even when, towards the end, it slows down and goes back to only the drums that it started with, both the visuals and music make it very clear that it didn't stop building up, it's just a quiet before the storm. Although overall it's a little slower and calmer, it doesn't have a moment where the music abandons what it was building up to. But at its heart, Your Turn To Roll as a musical piece has a far stronger sequence of buildup and payoff that really works with a TV series intro. Now this does not mean that I think the Your Turn to Roll intro is better in terms of finer quality. and again that tension fizzles out in a single drumstrike, and the visuals are just a clouded blob with the title card in the center. ![]() and again that continuous rise in tension vanishes, the musical buildup sinks to a happy, harmonious tune and Vox Machina is shown standing throughout the four seasons in a static tensionless image.įor the third time in a row there's a musical buildup, instruments change yet again from happier to deeper and the heavy drums become more prominent, Vox Machina looks ahead towards the unknown world from high up. ![]() That pattern of building up and missing a crescendo continues both in terms of music and visuals when you see Vox Machina lying beaten on the ground, and you think that the more whimsical tunes of Scanlan's portrait were just a slight drop that's going to rise to a climax, and the characters are rising up again, the battle isn't over yet, Scanlan reaches out for something. but at the last portrait of Percy and during Scanlan's portrait, that strong buildup seems to falter. The song seems to build to that payoff throughout, starting off with strong deep drums and then going through 'character portraits' with each defining moment building up the music further. What I primarily miss in the intro is a musical 'payoff' of sorts. I agree that the LoVM opening song is better suited to the series as an opening song, and it's definitely well made, but honestly it does not evoke as strong adventurous feelings in me as Your Turn to Roll, and those feelings are what I expect to find in LoVM.
